It has been awhile... here's one reason:
Recently, Nobie started "leaking" as we call it (aka peeing) on the floor while laying in it. This is not okay, for obvious reasons. Grant and I hoped it was a one-time thing. We hoped she would just stop. We had the vet come check her for a bladder infection. Bad news, folks, he said it was behavioral. That's right, behavioral. She's too young for it to be "normal" as some old dog do occasionally have accidents. Unless she starts doing it all the time and leaking a full bladder, the vet told us to treat it as a behavioral problem. Meaning, hopefully, that she can un-learn it. Here's our problem - that takes a lot of time. And effort. And consistency. Something that we and probably many dog owners don't realize we signed up for.
So, we thought we could deal with it. But now it is becoming more and more upsetting/frustrating to both Grant and me. Tonight we e-mailed a dog trainer. Unfortunately, the new class doesn't start until late July. So we requested a one-on-one training session. Yes, oh the things people pay for to take care of their pets. Grant and I both feel crazy. And I don't naturally relax anyway. It is something that's a struggle for me. So... add this to the mix, and I'm not doing so well.
The good thing is that life moves on. And dogs are dogs - most have a behavior problem of some sort. I asked Grant if the Calvinism (theology) theory applies to dogs as far as pre-destination. AKA did God know that Nobie was going to pee and could he stop it if he wanted. Grant said yes. As hilarious as that might sound, it is reassuring to know that God knows my struggles and cares about me. Knowing that God is in control and knows what we will do and what will happen to Nobie in our lives is reassuring.
If you have any tips, feel free to leave them! :) And I promise, another post will come tomorrow.
hilarious! hope the training goes well!
ReplyDeleteoh my word, can i relate! we have a one year old dog and she is a mess. lots of behavior problems. there is a training class at the westwood animal hospital that is really good. we also had a trainer come out after leighton was born because lucy was crazy. she is supposedly the only dog & baby trainer in this area. she was really helpful & really good. let me know if you want her name and number. maybe nobie & lucy need to have a doggie playdate!
